What is Collage Animation?
It is a type of animation which consists of a blend of real photographs / images and illustrations. It may involve the usage of more photos than illustrations or vice versa. It can also contain vector shapes as an added complexity.
In the process of making a collage animation, artists cut-out pieces out of images digitally or manually (e.g human, object, texture etc) and assemble them in animation software such as Adobe After Effects. If it is done manually, the images will be scanned first then will be manipulated digitally using various software.
Then these image pieces are animated individually along with illustrations, hand-drawn animation and textures to create a unique collage look and feel. All these moving cuts made up what is called a “collage animation”.

What are The Steps in Making a Collage Animation?
The production of collage animation involves various stages. Just like a regular animated explainer video, we start with researching our client’s product or service that will be featured in our video. Then we start writing script drafts and send them to you for approval.
While our copywriters are working hard on the script, our design team will develop the look and feel of the collage. It will be presented as a style-frame for approval. Once all the above are approved, we will create a storyboard to show our ideas for each scene of the animation.
After the storyboard is done, our animators start working on all the scenes and bring them to life. Voice-overs are recorded along the way so our animators can use them during the animation stage. Voila, the collage animation is now ready for your approval!
